ESPN announced today that Mike Massaro will join Nicole Manske and Allen Bestwick as host of ESPN’s weekly NASCAR news and information program, NASCAR Now. Massaro has been a pit reporter for ESPN’s NASCAR race coverage for two yer, and will continue working the pits for select NASCAR Nationwide Series races this season.
Marty Reid, who has been the lead announcer for ESPN’s IndyCar coverage the past three years, while making sporadic appearances on NASCAR Nationwide Series broadcasts, he will take over the Nationwide Series broadcasting duties for much of the second half of the season. He will continue to be joined by Dr. Jerry Punch, who will continue as the play-by-play announcer for the Sprint Cup Series and Nationwide Series in the first half of the season.
Also coming to NASCAR’s coverage full-time from the IndyCar series on ESPN is Vince Welch, who will become on of ESPN’s four primary pit reporters, working all NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races and multiple Nationwide Series races as well. He will join Dave Burns, Jamie Little, and Shannon Spake on pit road full time.
Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree will continue as lead analysts for race telecasts, and will be joined by Punch and Reid. Bestwick will also continue to host ESPN’s pre-race show, NASCAR Countdown, from the ESPN Pit Studio. Joining Bestwick for each race will be Rusty Wallace and Brad Daugherty. Ray Evernham will continue to appear on the pre-race show for select races this season, and continue his row on NASCAR Now as an analyst, as well as other ESPN studio programs.
NASCAR Now will return February 2nd, with ESPN’s NASCAR race coverage opener on February 14th as the NASCAR Nationwide Series returns to Daytona and kicks off the 2009 season.
