Jeff Gordon did not have the race he was expecting at Phoenix International Raceway on Sunday, as an engine failure sent him home with a 41st place finish.

“It’s just pretty disappointing,” said Gordon. “One thing we haven’t had happen to us all year, that we rarely have happen, is engine trouble. We’re not exactly sure what it was. I felt it lose a cylinder and we just tried to ride it out as long as we could.

“Nobody is better than our engine shop, so we will figure it out and make sure it doesn’t happen again. My hat’s off to our engine guys.”

Gordon only has Homestead left in order to prevent 2008 from being his first win less season since his rookie year in 1993. Gordon has never won at Homestead, holding a best finish of third back in 2004. Gordon finished fourth the last time around at Homestead.

The final event on the Sprint Cup schedule is the Nov. 16 Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The race begins at 3:45 p.m. EST with live, high-definition coverage provided by ABC beginning with its pre-race show at 3 p.m. The race will also be broadcast live on MRN Radio and SIRIUS Satellite Radio Channel 128.
